The Guide to Podcamp NYC

Hi Guys!

Kristen Crusius, a.k.a. Kroosh, has done a bang up job at getting this Guide to Podcamp NYC 2.0

ready for everyone.  The Guide is sponsored by our good friends over at Red Lasso, and includes a session schedule, a guide to Dining in the Brooklyn Poly area (put together by Mark Tafoya and Jennifer Iannolo from the Culinary Media Network), and we hope you find it helpful.

Keep in mind that due to last minute issues, the session schedule may alter slightly between now and the time of the event, so keep your eyes peeled for the latest updates by checking the links we posted earlier here and on the wiki.

You will also be getting some emails from us over the next few days with info and FAQ, so check your email for that information as it becomes available.

You Never Know Until You Ask….

As some of you might know, I am an avid reader, and one of my favorite books lately is “The Pirate’s Dilemma- How Youth Culture is Reinventing Capitalism” by Matt Mason.  It’s a great book that speaks to many things we talk about in New Media, ranging from disruption of the status quo to DIY to finding the elusive gold at the end of the rainbow.  I was writing about “Podcamp and Pirates” over on my personal blog, and was linking to Matt Mason’s page, when I discovered he lives in Brooklyn.  A quick exchange of emails later, and Matt is going to come and speak at Podcamp NYC!

We have a really great line-up of sessions for Podcamp NYC this year, and many fantastic speakers.  We don’t do keynotes per se, or really single out any one person over another as a rule, but I just had to say how excited I am that one of my favorite authors is coming to be a part of Podcamp, and how great it is that social media works- you can contact someone you’ve never met before, and before you know it, they can become part of the community.

We Love Our Sponsors- Year After Year

So I thought it was important to mention the fact that a number of our sponsors were folks who were also involved last year.  Doug Kersten of PodGlo for instance, was with us last year at the New Yorker hotel and has been a huge supporter of the NYC Podcasting community for years.  Hes also been very supportive of PodCampNYC by letting me and others talk about both last and this years events at the NYC Podcasting Association meetup group hes in charge of. I also wanted to mention blip.tv.  They were one of our earliest sponsors this year, and last year helped us out by sponsoring an after-party.  Ive known Dina for a number of years and am always amazed at how eloquent she is at describing the value of new media in general and the great video producers she and blip.tv support/enable.  I also interviewed her via our PodCampNYC podcast that you can hear here: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/PodCampNYC/2008/02/19/Interview-with-Dina-Kaplan-of-bliptv. Please notewe love ALL our sponsors.  Plus I did not mention all of the folks who sponsored last year who also are onboard this year (like Podango, Magnify, Bill Sobel, Imprint Alliance, Podcast Ready, Jason Van Orden, Morpheus Media, the Harbrooke Group and Vigor Interactive Branding).  But my point here is to say a big whopping GRACIAS to the folks who make Podcamps of all shapes and sizes possible year after year.  Please give them (and our new beloved sponsors) the link love and attention they deserve.

Sincerely,

John C. Havens
